Touching Mars, Meaningful Life ~ 24 Nov 2018

The Mars InSight Lander reaches Mars and finds its touch down spot on the red planet tomorrow. NASA will stream the landing live. Be one of the first to find out (as Mars would want you to be) what’s going on up there. Who knows, maybe even a glimpse of the Tesla roadster can be had... or perchance Martian life forms? The following link will hook you up. Check your local time zone for what hours you need to set aside. NASA Live

Martian life forms might put a person in mind of alien life forms. Think of all the movies about LGP (little green people) we’ve endured for the past sixty years.

Right prior to the recent U.S. election while our president adamantly proclaimed we were under invasion from aliens, a group of astronomers from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, published a complicated, but compelling paper regarding Oumuamua, a recent interstellar visitor to our solar system. And they declared that it could be an alien scout ship.

Wait, what? Astronomers from Harvard did this?

Yes, they did. For those who have only a vague recollection of Oumuamua, here’s a refresh. Discovered in October 2017, Oumuamua (Hawaiian for “scout” or “first distant messenger”) is an interstellar object, the first of its class and the first to pass through our solar system. It’s orbital period is unknown essentially. A reddish sort of cigar-shaped object, it tumbles through space with a rotational period of slightly more than eight hours. Where it came from we do not exactly know - although possibly from Vega - and where it’s going we don’t exactly know.

One thing that struck me as curious at the time of its passage is how bloody fast that thing traveled through our solar system’s turf. I was going to go through the hoops to create an ephemeris for it, but given its insane speed... and evident speeding up while in our solar system... there was little point.

For astrological purposes, besides its Hawaiian nomenclature we can hold on to the notation that its north node occupies 24 Aries 36. This is approximately the position of Eris and virtually opposite the Hawaiian named dwarf planet Haumea. What does this mean? Well, first, there is in innate inspiration to create a distinct sense of ones authentic self with the alignment with Eris. Second, the opposition to Haumea seems to promote access to personal creativity... the kinds of insights that might come ones way while lying on a tropical beach sipping exotic beverages from coconut shells. Seriously, if you were vacation-like relaxed and chilled out, what amazing insights might enter your stressless being?

Now back to the Harvard astronomers. They declared: “A more exotic scenario is that ‘Oumuamua’ may be a fully operational probe sent intentionally to Earth vicinity by an alien civilization.”

Thought one: Hmm, that sort of fits the scouting nomenclature given to the object.

Thought two: Holy crap!

Thought three: Wait, just a dang minute. Harvard astronomers? More comedy writers have come from Harvard than any other Ivy League school. Ask National Lampoon, Saturday Night Live.

Is it possible the astronomers were lampooning the president’s declarations regarding the invasion of immigrants? Maybe. Maybe not. I read the entirety of their math heavy paper... multiple times and with several cups of coffee. There was no lampooning implied. It is true that there was an unprecedented acceleration of the object in our solar system. It came and went super fast. Could it have been gravitation influence? Some sort of photon boosting energy received from the Sun? Energy bursts from things we do not yet understand? Could it be the alien commanders took a look at Earth and its goings on and said, “Hit the afterburners, Scotty. Get me away from this crap heap planet?”

Regardless, worry not.

Really?

Really. Since 1947 with the incident of the pilot near Mount Rainier in Washington, and Roswell, too, we have dealt with the “tangible” and “material” presence of space craft from alien civilizations. Ancient petroglyphs and cuneiforms and hieroglyphics allegedly document visitation from alien beings. This has been going on a long, long time. It they’re out there, likely they’re watching us with the same curiosity of our Mars lander staking a claim on the red planet in two days... potentially in hopes of discovering meaningful life.

Meaningful life. There’s a concept.

Apply the concept personally. Oumuamua’s node aligns with Eris. Make your life meaningful, by scouting out your skin with your soul. Get in there and do this life thing to the utmost of your ability. While you’re at it, reach across the cosmic aisle to Haumea. Integrate any and all of your creativity. Find those talents and skills and sip on them deliberately and with the intent to apply the best of what you’ve got. The end result: regardless of what goes on around you, know that you’re doing the best you can to be meaningful and to create a meaningful life.

Happy scouting.

More soon.
